I tried to get closer to the scene for better close up of where the action is but under the watchful eyes of the policeman, I was disallowed to proceed any further than where I was currently standing.

I don't supposed the policeman can do anything much than pure staring. He has almost no authority to stop you unless the grounds are in a state of hazard.
